Do you bielieve there's life after death? Has anyone had a near death experience ? Interesting to see.
I definitely believe in a life after death. Let me start by saying that I'm a practicing Christian, but from experiences I've had with family and a favorite cat who died, I don't think it is as it has been portrayed in scripture. The really short version of my experiences is that the person or animal who dies hangs around to reassure the living that things are OK and/or to say goodbye. I know that's brief and vague, but the entire stories are hard for me to condense or write without getting really emotional and way more detailed about than is probably necessary.
Lou
yes,
of course there is something.
i don't think anyone knows what exactly, but i know it can't just end
I don't know. I kind of like the deist position: the life you have after death is in the plants you feed and the memories you leave behind.
However, I was brought up as a Christian, and, such training is hard to overcome. So, as the song says, "I know there ain't no heaven, and I pray there ain't no hell."

I know absolutely there is life after death and in some cases the soul or spirit, can transcend death and survive as what we call a ghost.
I can't really say anything because I haven't died yet. Hahahaha! Seriously though, I think our life here on earth is important because for all we know it may be the only one we have, so instead of waiting around for paradise in the afterlife, go make your own little paradise on earth the best you can with what you have. You don't have to live intensely or do great things and win awards and have monuments built to you and such either.
I agree with Godzilla-On-Toast. Live your life.
I have a feeling there is life after death. I myself have never had a near-death experience, and I hope it stays that way.
I had 2 near-death experiences before, luckily I survived both. I believe in life after death. I mean when u die I doubt your life ends there. Have you ever heard of past lives? I believe in reincarnation also that when u die u might come back as an animal or human again if your lucky.
Or a ghost... which really wouldn't be the life I'd want, althoug halloween would be quite interesting. LOL
In all seriousness I do believe in ghosts though, although I've never came into contact with one before, which i'm kind of greatful for.
For all we know we could've existed in ancient times as dinosaurs, cavemen, cavewomen or somthing. We just don't remember any of it.
It's all a freaking mystery to me. I too have had a near-death experience, but I didn't see anything other than all the terrifying hallucinations induced by medication. Death is like a deep sleep, and the unconscious area of our mind takes over. We lose the little self-control we exercise while here on earth. I don't think anybody can know for sure, and I actually think it's better that no one can know for sure. If dante or the writers of the bible or any other sources are correct in their accounts about an afterlife, then many problems await us all. I think it's possible that there is an afterlife, but it's going to be revealed to each person individually and personally. And I agree with Godzilla, that we ought to make the best of this life, as difficult as it may be to do so, and that aspiring to be rich, famous or even powerful is in many ways unrealistic for most of us. Attempting to be any of these things will only lead to despair. We can only be what we make ourselves.
I do believe there's life after death, but I don't pretend to have the slightest idea exactly what it is. I don't believe in the traditional Christian view of heaven and hell, or reincarnation, or anything like that, and I would like to know how anyone can be absolutely sure that their belief is the right one. I wish I had that kind of faith. All I know is that I do believe there's a higher power, a spirit or infinite being or whatever term you prefer, but for all I know there could be more than one. There could be thousands. I like the idea that our life after death is in the plants we feed and the memories we leave behind, it's nice, but ... who knows?
Dancing I can help you out there.
What we refer to as Ghosts are in fact what we also term the soul or spirit. It is the very essence of the person in their purest form Their energy, personality, habits and appearance, remain the same.
As in life so in death as far as the temperament and nature is concerned..they retain that and remain the person you knew when this spirit occupied their body which is the only thing about them that has died.
To date I've seen 2 spirits.
A close friend Donnie, who was killed in a terrible climbing accident in Pakistan and Dad, who died of a massive heart attack a few years ago. We are very close to these guys so we are honoured to have them here, particularly as the Pakistani climbers are unable to recover Donnie's body.
Apart from going under anaesthetic 16 times in total, I have never, had a near-death experience (not that I can remember, anyway). I was born with a heart murmur and a classic cleft pallet going right back in to my airway which, when I was a tiny baby, my heart used to stop for a few seconds and I'd also stop breathing. That's as close as I got to a near-death experience. There is not life after death though, or else, where are my great grandparents? my great uncle Joss? my cousins baby twins? my uncle who I never knew because he and his twin brother Richard were born 10 weeks early in 1964 and he was too small to survive? and more recently, my cousin's twins she lost during pregnancy, Kay's and my friend Suzannah who died from terminal illness two years ago on Tuesday? No. If there was life after death, I would've known three of my great grandparents and my uncle who died before I was born and I would have had more time with my two friends and the great Grandfather (my mum's grandfather and Gran's father) who I'd only known for my first six years of life, and my four cousins, including the baby on the way, will never know now, hence my username, Dumbledoresgirl, because when I read the first Harry Potter book back in 1999, Dumbledore reminds me very strongly indeed of my great grandad on my mum's side.
Well I definitely believe there's life after death. I've been with people who have died who were very close to me. My mom and husband, and the feelings I had when they passed were not just out of wanting something to happen. I believe there's life after death because time goes so quickly. Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, months turn into years. This can't be all there is. I believe this is a dress rehearsal for what's to come. The choices we make, and the way we impact people around us all figure into it. Keep posting. Love it. D L
Dumbledore because you don't have these people with you, does NOT mean that life after death does not exist, that's a very narrow reactionary view.
Dancing I agree and after all that has happened and all the people we have lost, I know for sure that our bodies are simply transport for the soul, or whatever you choose to call it.
To go off on another tack.
It goes some way to explain the trouble people have with spirits who do not know they have passed on.
Sometimes I think it is that a song can more so convey my thots than what on my own I am enabled to do… trust you won't mind my sharing these words of a song with you.
Spirit
man gets tired
spirit don’t
man surrenders
spirit won’t
man crawls
spirit flies
spirit lives when man dies
man seems
spirit is
man dreams
spirit lives
man is tethered
spirit is free
what spirit is man can be
now we tread the fresh fields,
the higher grounds and the
summer slopes
that man may someday climb on
now we tread the fresh fields
the higher ground and the
summer slopes
that man may someday climb on
we’re on the heels of rimbaud
we are in the swing
chandelier-like dancing
and we feel everything
high on the wine of life
high on the wine of life
untethered and free
untethered and free
what spirit is man can be

I wonder what I'll be thinking on my deathbed...I guess I just want to be happy with the life I lived on this earth, no regrets, no looking back.
Good topic this is. I certainly believe there must be life after death, because I have heard of people going into areas which are reportedly haunted with tape recorders, digital recorders, and even hi-quality condenser mics, and actually getting voices of people who have passed on. I've actually tried this myself, and I think I did actually get something at a local grave yard. However, unfortunately, I'd put it on a casette tape at the time, and I've lost it. Hope to be doing more of that kind of thing in the future, it's very interesting. If you want a site to check out recordings like this, I believe the url of one is www.ghostpix.com. not totally sure, but I believe that's what it is.
Va3ets thank you for the address.
My partner has pictures of ghosts standing in a window of a cathedral in Edinburgh Scotland.
They weren't there when she took the pictures, but came out as the film was being developed.
Very interesting, I guess i can even happen with pictures. I see they've even got a podcast going up on ghostpix.com, shows how long it's been since i've been up there lol
I went to the site and when I wanted ghost pics I got country music..smile that's depressing enough as it is.
I wouldn't base my belief on something as unreliable as tape-recordings, pictures, etc. Goblin, it seems to me that your friend might have been fooled. When you say: "They weren't there when she took the pictures, but came out as the film was being developed," it's very easy for me to believe that the persons who developed her pictures are having fun with her. If I had this job, I'd probably do the same to the customers. lol I think it's completely unknowable to us. It's especially hard for me to believe ghost stories or urban legends as such things are clearly based on superstition.:)
Well, I've heard of EVP's, and I've heard EVP's on a program called coast-to-coast. Sometimes I wonder if it's the dead we're hearing, or conversations that were held by the living. The words we say never die. Now, that's and interesting concept, don't you think? The words we say are sent into space. It's an awesome thought. Every word we say lives on.
I believe in reincarnation and karma. When the body we presently house our spirits in dies, our spirits passed and we are moved onto the next deserving life, whether it's as another human, some random animal, or even a flower or tree.
I believe there's a heaven, and I believe there's a hell. Someday, I will tell my story, and why it's an absolute fact. These places aren't just figments of someone's imagination. I have stood at the bed sides of those I've loved, and it was a true experience. For those who say hell isn't real, think of this. If I'm wrong, and there's nothing after this life great. But, if I'm right and you're wrong, and there is a hell, then what?
i have red about people and animals hanging around after they die. but i've never seen it. but the way i believe is when you die you have life in heaven or hell.
Raskolnikov how cynical you are.
The developers were as suprised as my partner when they saw the people in the window. Your assertion is baseless and quite insane.
Chris heaven and hell are a product of what we have rammed down our throats as children, it's a form of control, like the bogey man who will carry you away if you dont say your prayers every night.
One night the child forgets or dares the threat by not bothering and nothing happens, all they have learned is the power of lies.
Well, we're here for a reason there's no doubt. Whether one believes there's life after death depends on the experiences they've had, the environment they were raised in (etc). Whether there's a heaven or hell, purgatory, or just a void is something we'll all have to find out for ourselves. But, isn't it awesome to think you might still be alive a million years from now? Interesting thought huh?
I definitely do believe that there is life after death. I have seen reports from people who went to hell to be warned and to warn others, and one has even been to heaven. So I believe it is that way. I am a dedicated christian, and I can not imagine any other way.
I believe in life after death. I am a christian who believes there is heaven and hell.
This is a question that I have spent a good deal of my life investigating. Back in April, there was a topic here under Let's Talk entitled "What Do You Think of Your Impending Death?" which was started by Blbobby and can still be found here. I said what I wanted to say on this subject there.
Life after death? Probably, it depends on what religious belief you hold toward this issue. Me, i think there is but i'm not yet sure.
Absolutely not. We don't have a single *conclusive* piece of evidence that life after death is anything more than wishful thinking.
